Our Story
Started with a meal.
Grown into a movement.
In December 2005, Milla Happonen delivered food packages to 120 families — around 600 people — living in poverty in Kampala. That single act of generosity became the foundation of Caring Hands Uganda.
Registered as an NGO in 2008, the organisation trained over 50 women in recycled paper jewelry making, creating livelihoods from nothing. With support from USAID and Finland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2010–2016), the work grew into a full economic empowerment programme.
Today, Caring Hands Uganda works with women, widows, and youth across Kampala — equipping them with skills, confidence, and the opportunity to build independent futures.
